Episode 2 Scene Guide
Episode one Locations and Credits
Scene one - So Long and Thanks for all the Fish
Dolphins and Douglas Adams Jokes. Originally a clip entitled "So Long" Location: Eastern Pacific somewhere
Scene Two - Nuka Hiva Mashup
The Island of Nuku Hiva, capital of the Marquesas group in French Polynesia. The Beach shot is Hatataui or some such on the north coast, the river mouth is Freddie off SV "Miss Tippy" going home to play on his X-Box (*sigh*). In Hakaiu. The yacht and cliff is Lucy Alice again, I think, entering Daniel's bay, named after the single resident the yacht friendly "Daniel". He wasn't actually called Daniel. But once the yachtie community had named the bay after him and everyone heard of him there's not much he could do about it. The bloke was bought out by the survivor TV programme. Running one of the worlds greatest yacht traditions. "Daniel" had a buoy and a hose to give fresh drinking water to passing yachts and a guest book.
The Pig Dance is performed on the docks of Tahoae Bay the islands capital. You can see the bay from the panning shot form the hills above. This bears a striking similarity to my Nuku Hiva video. Music is from a video of a dance performed at Rosie's in Tahoae Bay - to dark to use the video, thank god there's none of me doing the Pig Dance
Scene Three - Tuamutos.
The first clip is of Island Kea entering the lagoon at Rangiroa. The rest of the clips are shot by me with Thorbjorn's video camera from the main spreaders of Ornen in 1999. 11 year old video. The original Appears here and on youtube as Apataki. Coming in the pass is recorded in my video camera, and is fabulous. Dolphins leaping out of huge standing waves. No I can't get it off the damn tape! Location; Rangiroa and Apataki.
Scene Four - Pass Tiputa.
Swell coming up from the south and breaking on the reef at Rangiroa made the Lagoon over flow through the passes. Us and SV Aspen wanted to leave. Steve off Aspen was concerned about the pass and wanted to watch us leave, he offered to video it. This frankly fabulous video is the result. Appears in my clips as "Pass Tiputa" Location: Pass Tiputa, Rangiroa
Scene Five - Alanbourgh.
This Alan of Jackal, just inside the pass at Rangiroa, with a baby reef shark, don't worry no reef sharks where harmed. 2 locals were using a baited lasso to snag their teeth and jerk them from the sea. Popping them in the rock pool. Location: The Aquarium Snorkel spot, just inside Pass Tiputa Rangiroa.
Scene Eight - Head Spin
Island Kea, at anchor, with me driving the dinghy round it at full throttle. Not often the waters flat enough to do that and get an acceptable video. Location: Anchored of Hotel Ki Ora, Rangiroa.
Scene Seven - Jacques Cousteau's Favourite Snorkel Spot
Filmed by me, and Val off SV Angel (with my camera) just behind the Motu Alan does his reef shark Speech on, the local dive company calls this spot "The Aquarium". I think you can see why. The bloke snorkelling in some of the shots is Steve of SV Aspen. Thanks to Val for the extra camera work. Damn I need a hair cut.
Satanic BBC test card, has become my logo, originally made for b3ta.
