Intel Wireless LAN cards

Intel WiFI cards, as found in centrino laptops and others are a real nightmare. The symptoms I've noticed include:
Refusal to connect to unencrypted networks. Windows says "Are you sure you want to connect to this unsecured network", you hit yes and windows says are you sure you want.... for EVER

Incompatible with access points. Several Intel Cards have refused to connect to my Wavelan II access point. The wavelan has a WiFi (wireless fidelity) sticker on the Intel Centrio laptops don't. Other brands such as cisco 340, and belkin and a D link are all fine. The laptops are fine if you stick one of my other cards in them!

Incompatible with linux access points. Inducing MeshAP, (prism II chipset wifi cards), our pebble linux based access points (Atheros Cards, madwifi driver)

Inability to get the Intel utility to work. The Windows XP wireless Zero configuration has its well know nad well documented failing. These can usually be resolved by turning it off, and using the manufactures card utility instead. Only the one for Intel WiFi cards is impossible to find on their website, difficult to istall and doen't recognise their cards.

My advice to you is DON'T on any account buy one if you want to really be wireless. Whether they are actually WiFi compliant and tested I don't know. What I do know is they are far more likely to cause problems than other cards. ADDED: More Problems - looks like I'm not alone in problems with intel WiFi cards. Que up people or vote with your feet.
